Cogeneration is a process where the primary energy contained in a fuel, such as natural gas or biogas, is converted into two products: electricity and heat.

It is worth pointing out that less energy is needed to gain the same amount of electricity and heat comparing to separate generation processes. It means that cogeneration uses fuel more efficiently and thus reduces global CO₂ emissions to the atmosphere.
